Ages ago, the goddess Athena was served by fighters called Saints who channeled the power of the Cosmos within them. Now a youth named Seiya has trained to become a Saint himself by earning the mystical Cloth of Pegasus.
The battles between the Saints of Athena have begun, but Seiya is nowhere to be found. Saori, host of the tournament, is concerned, but Seiya and his teacher, Marin, remain confident as Seiya battles in the finals of a tournament held in Ancient Greece, where Seiya has trained since childhood. The winner is to receive the Bronze Armor of Pegasus, one of 12 armors of Athena, and will be recognized as one of the 12 Saints of Athena.
But winning it is no small task as Seiya battles long time rival (and bully) Cassius, as Cassius's devious trainer, Shina, looks on. Seiya's battles, however, have hardly begun.
Winning the armor, Seiya is warned not to use the armor unless it is used to fight for what is right, and never for personal gain. Before the night is through, Seiya finds himself fleeing Greece for home for reasons only Marin seem to know. Finally, Shina catches up with him and challenges him to fight. Putting on the Armor of Pegasus evens the scales a bit, but Seiya finds himself in more danger than he realized, as the armor's power is dependant on his own, and his knowledge in using it, and his own spirit, or Ken.
